She is suffering from tuberculosis of the spine. Both the brothers do odd jobs from morning till late night to pay the hospital bill of their sister. They Shine shoes, sell fruits, hawk newspaper and conduct tourists to make money. They have a supreme sense of duty.

Answer :- The Story is based on the idea that we should not lose heart in adversity. This idea has been developed through the story of two young boys named Nicola and Jacopo. They lost both parents at an early age. Their sister was admitted in a hospital for the treatment of tuberculasis of the spine. They worked day and night to make money. Their sister was on her way to recovery. The selfless action of the two brothers brought a new nobility to human life.
Question 3. Explain in brief the condition in which the boys grew up ?
Answer :- The Boys grew up in hastile conditions. The belonged to a well to do family. Due to war they suffered from starvation. Their father was killed. Their house was destroyed and they were thrown into street. Later on, it was discovered that their sister was suffering from the tuberculosis of the spine. They admitted her to a hospital and did hard work to pay her hospital bills.
