Answer :- The Girl felt that she was going to be hit by something every moment.

Question 1. What is the author see in Miss Beam’s school at first sight ? How did he feel about it ?

Answer :- The author had heard a great deal about the originality of Miss Beam’s school. once he got a chance to visit it. He was many handicapped children but in reality they were healthy. He met Miss Beam and asked her about her scholastic methods. She told the author that the real aim of the school was to give training in thoughtfulness, humanity and good citizenship. Every child in her school had one blind day, one lame day and one dumb day etc. Thus made them understand the misfortunes of the handicapped. They learnt to share the sufferings and sorrows of others. Thus they got real sympathy for such unfortunate persons. The author was deeply impressed with the new system of teaching of Miss Beam. 

 

Question 2. Give a brief Character – sketch of Miss Beam . 

Answer :- Miss Beam was kind hearted middle aged, authoritative and full of understanding. She started a new school know as the school for sympathy. Important school subjects were taught in the school. In this school Miss Beam gave her children education in humanity and citizenship. She gave practical training to her children to understand the sufferings and problems of the handicapped people. Every child in school had one blind day, one lame day, one deaf day and dumb day. Miss Beam was a practical lady. She was a source of comfort to a home stick child. In short it can be said that Miss Beam was very imaginative teacher in the real sense. she wanted to promote nobles ideas in society. 

Question 3. What is the theme of the lesson ‘The School Sympathy’ ?

Answer :- The Theme of the lesson ‘The School for Sympathy’ is based on the idea that formal education is not sufficient. Besides importing bookish knowledge, it should teach something. It give lessons in humanity as well as citizenship. So, Miss Beam did not give only formal education to her students but also instilled humanity and citizenship in them. During their scholastic period, she made her students to act as blind, deaf, dumb and lame for a day. They made those children to know how difficult the lives of such miserable person. He says that after visiting Miss Beam’s school, he found in himself a better and wise man.

 

Question 4. Give a brief account of the author’s visit to Miss Beam’s School. 

Answer :- Once the author visited Miss Beam’s school because he had learnt a lot about the originality of her methods of teaching. she did not only taught the normal subjects but also made the students sympathetic, thoughtful and kind. The author saw many handicapped children but they were all healthy. Each child has one blind day, one lame day, one dumb day and one deaf day in a term. This made the students understand the misfortunes of the handicapped. Miss Beam introduced the author to a little girl. she was blind folded because she was having her blind day. she told him about the sufferings of a blind, dumb and lame people. when the author left the school, he found himself a better and wiser man. 

Question 5. ‘In the course of the term every child has one blind day, one deaf day, maimed day, and one dumb day.’ what were the children expected to do on these days ?

Answer :- In the ‘School For Sympathy’ the students were taught to share the sufferings and problems of the handicapped. Miss Beam made students to experience the troubles of those unfortunate people in the practical way. Each child had a blind day, a deaf day, a lame day and a dumb day. During the blind day, they eyes were bandaged. Other children were told to help him. on the lame day, the legs of the children were tied up and they had to hop on a crutch. on the dumb day, they had to exercise will power and control themselves from talking. Miss Beam wanted to give  them a real understanding of the discomfort faced by a handicapped person. The author praised for the new system of teaching introduced by Miss Beam.
