Question 1. Write a Character sketch of Karam Singh.
Answer :- Karam Singh was a Havildar in the army. He was pasted in Burma. He belonged to the village named Thathi Khara in Amritsar district. He was heatry, friendly character. He had a very pleasing manner of speech. The village of his village loved to sit by his side and listen his tales of war and adventure. He had killed many Japanese in the war. He used to be the best performer in rifle shooting competitions. Karam Singh had deep attachment of his family and village. When Mann Singh his friend went on leave, he persuaded him to visit his village. All would be happy to meet him. Karam Singh laid down his life against the Japanese in the war. He was a great hero. On his death the whol village panged into into deep grief.
Question 2. Write a Character sketch of Mann Singh.
Answer :- Mann Singh, the close friend of Karam Singh was Naik in the army. He belonged to the village Chuharkhana. Mann Singh belonged to the regiment of Karam Singh and they were very close to each other. Mann Singh got leave and Karram Singh asked him to visit his village. He would also visit the historical places nearby. Mann Singh Visited these places before the end of his holidays. He was full of enthusiasm to see Karam Singh’s family. But he was very upset to receive the cold receptions. He was full of sweet words for Karam Singh. All his efforts failed to arouse any interest in Karam’s Singh family. Although everyone had done his best to make his comfortable, the enjoyed the visit much less them he had expected. But when he come to know from the postman about karam Singh’s death, he was seized by numbness. His eyes were flooded with tears. We find in Mann Singh a true friend and a Mann Singh a true friend and a man who keeps his word.
Question 3. Write a Character Sketch of Karam Singh’s father ?
Answer :- Karam Singh’s father is an old man. He must be past sixty. The Story does not tell us about his early life. He does not talk much when Mann Singh comes to visit his house. He does not talk frankly with the visitor. He is not at all warm to his son’s close friend. Mann Singh gets a Cold treatment. He does not ask Mann Singh any question about the welfare of his son. So Mann Singh ask him if he is Karram’s Singh father. He is a man of sorrows. After the death of karam Singh, he has to take care of his daughter in law and his grandson. He has become numb after the death of his son in the army. when Mann Singh comes to know that his friend is dead. He then understands, why he is sad and almost silent. He burdened himself with all sorrows. He is like the mythical bull that bears the weight of the earth on head.
